Yesterday was a pedal to the metal drive type of day.
We awoke to see the flat butte top of Devils Tower floating in a sea of fog and, after enjoying a cup of coffee and a homemade muffin in Rachael’s kitchen, we hit the road to Salt Lake City, Utah.
With a nine-hour drive ahead of us, everyone put in their miles at the wheel; it was overcast and gloomy all day long, sort-of the perfect day to be in the car.
We zig-zagged our way across the state of Wyoming, pausing in Rawlins for lunch at The Peppermill as is becoming tradition…two years ago, we made this same lunch stop and I swear we also had the same waitress.
After that, we jumped on The 80 and screamed it all the way to SLC, stopping once at Little America for an obligatory $1.00 ice cream cone and to marvel at the switch-blade earrings and turquoise carved bullet necklaces so proudly displayed for sale.
We landed at the house on The Avenues, safe and sound…2,800 miles behind us.
Today was all about picking up the mail, unpacking, packing, and laundry…a brief yet much needed respite from the road.
Health update:
We are all coughing, but no one really feels ill. The uncontrollable cacophony usually begins upon laughing, so, you can image what it’s like to be in this car…
Postnasal drip? Whooping Cough? Tuberculosis? Yeah, could be.
David is convinced he’s been re-infected and will certainly be re-visiting Urgent Care when we get home. Nancy is still pretty sure she’s just fine. Steven is holding steady, a baby cough lingering. I am pretty good, but every now and then have an attack and nearly drop dead on the spot…I am 90% certain I have a broken rib.
All good, could be worse.
Tomorrow, we visit Arches National Park on the way to Monument Valley.
Just a few days left, but quite a lot to do and see!
